Sponsored Disclosure That Users Understand
Sponsored suggestions should be easy to recognize. Disclosure is not only a policy requirement; it is part of the user experience.
Good disclosure patterns are:
- Close to the sponsored suggestion.
- Short and readable.
- Consistent across cards, chat, prompt-weaved content, IDE surfaces, and MCP outputs.
- Present before the user takes action.
- Never hidden in a tooltip, settings page, or terms-only disclosure.
For cards, a `Sponsored` label near the brand or title is usually clear. For chat responses, a separate sponsored section is often safer than blending commercial content into the main answer. For IDE surfaces, the label should be visible before a user opens a link or installs a tool.
The agent should never imply that a sponsored suggestion is the only correct answer. It should remain a recommendation with context and disclosure.
